We started with good carpet, but I plan to add a built-in wall unit.

We started with good carpet, but I plan to add a built-in wall unit.
After the carpet came up, we found really cool floor covering! Unfortunately, it was worn out.

40 year old Armstrong does not remove easily. It took 4 hours to remove the first 6 foot strip!

The next morning, I decided to seek professional guidance.
Date/Time: Fri 07 Jul 2006 05:24:38 PM EDT
My new best friends at Rental Stop suggested the Rip'N'Stripper . 6" blade and motor vibration!

In 4 hours, this machine helped me do what would have taken 12!

This blade on a commercial buffer took care of the residue.

Six 1" carbide blades made short work of that 40 year old glue.

Due to the surprise floor covering, we are now waiting for the stain dude . . .
Date/Time: Mon 10 Jul 2006 01:44:51 PM EDT
After I thought the floor was clean, the pros came in
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 10:17:48 AM EDT
They cleaned and scraped for hours. Then they mopped a couple of times
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 10:18:07 AM EDT
The next morning, they cleaned a little more
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 10:19:25 AM EDT
Finally, it was clean enough to spray polyconcrete
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 11:40:04 AM EDT
This is not a bad photo. The polyconcrete caused that fog!
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 11:42:39 AM EDT
24 hours later the polyconcrete was dry and ready to stain
Date/Time: Wed 26 Jul 2006 03:12:34 PM EDT
The stain went on yellow, but turned dark as it soaked into the concrete
Date/Time: Thu 27 Jul 2006 08:33:28 AM EDT
A pump sprayer was used to apply the stain. A faux finish roller was used to give it texture and spread it evenly.
Date/Time: Thu 27 Jul 2006 08:31:31 AM EDT
It didn't look black to me
Date/Time: Thu 27 Jul 2006 10:44:01 AM EDT
A second coat of stain was applied
Date/Time: Fri 28 Jul 2006 11:04:32 AM EDT
The second coat of stain dried darker, but it still wasn't black. The guys said more stain wouldn't make it darker.
Date/Time: Fri 28 Jul 2006 11:05:28 AM EDT
Finally, an acrylic coating was applied to protect the surface.
Date/Time: Fri 28 Jul 2006 04:09:11 PM EDT
Man! Did that sealer make a difference!
Date/Time: Fri 28 Jul 2006 04:09:47 PM EDT
The finished floor! Dark browns, rich blacks, and flaws uh er character everywhere!
Date/Time: Sat 29 Jul 2006 07:55:20 PM EDT
Still can't believe the finished product!
